Analysis Of Death Of A Salesman And Of Mice And Men

Arthur Miller and John Steinbeck portray the failure and hopelessness of the American dream in the play â€Å"Death of a Salesman† and in the novella â€Å"Of Mice and Men†. The American Dream is the idea that any man or woman can make his or her own fortune, despite his or her past. The principles of the American dream are hard work and determination it is believed that this will ensures success. Through the creation of the main characters of the play and novella Arthur Miller and John Steinbeck show that the American dreams is fraudulent. During the 1920s and 1930s, the depression was a cause of major hardship and seemed to be a reverse of the dream which people held dear for so long. Arthur Miller shows this through failure and hopelessness of the American dream through the protagonist Willy Loman a leader of the Loman family.Willy is the protagonist a salesman in his late 60s. In ‘Of Mice and Men ‘On October 4 1929, millions of dollars were washed away in an event named the Wall Street crash. It led to the hopelessness in America which led the country to a poor state in the country from 1930-1936.Many people lost their life savings when banks had gone bankrupt, one third of Americas population was became unemployed. Steinbeck’s main characters George and Lennie are the part of the ones who fail to achieve their dream. Lennie is large, childlike migrant worker. Due to his mental disability, Lennie completely depends upon George, his friend and traveling companion, for guidance.
